A guide to choosing beautiful blinds that improve your home interior

A guide to choosing beautiful blinds that improve your home interior

By 1gdfs4 on November 28, 2022

Choosing the right style of blinds for your home

Having trouble finding that perfect sofa, carpet, or even blinds to fit the style of your room? Here at The Oxford Shutter Company, we understand how difficult it can be to find those elusive finishing touches that really make a space your own. That’s why we’ve put together this handy guide to choosing the right blinds for your home. With our tips and advice, choosing the right blinds will be a breeze!

When choosing your blinds, you should first consider whether they should be fitted inside or outside the window recess. For smaller spaces, blinds fitted inside the recess will save precious extra space. If you also want to add curtains, an inside fitting is best. Outside fitting keeps more light from coming in from outside, so if you want blackout blinds, for example, outside fitting is the way to go.

Blinds that are fitted outside the recess should overlap the space by about 45mm at the sides and bottom. It’s always a good idea to get a professional to help measure and fit your blinds. At The Oxford Shutter Company, we offer free home measurements for our entire range of made-to-measure blinds.

Now you have decided where you plan to install your blinds, it’s time to find the perfect style that will match your home and interior decor. With so many styles of blinds to choose from, it isn’t always as straightforward as going into a showroom and picking a style out!

That’s why we recommend made-to-measure blinds, as you have a lot more control over the specifications of your choice. When you opt for bespoke blinds, you don’t have to decide between privacy or style – you can absolutely have both!

The benefits of installing blinds for your windows

There are so many benefits to installing blinds in your home. We have picked out just a few of our top favourite reasons why blinds should be at the top of your Christmas list this year.

Control your privacy levels

For those of us who have front-facing windows that look out onto busy streets or pedestrian pathways, it can often feel like you are living in a goldfish bowl. Whilst passers-by want to admire your interior, you don’t always want people looking into your home! Window additions give you the luxury of shutting off your home to onlookers, leaving you free to relax in your living room in the evening without everyone else watching your TV as well!

Regulate the levels of natural light in your room

Not only can window coverings make your home feel more private, but they will also allow you to control the amount of natural light that floods your home throughout the day. For those who have the sun beaming in through their windows all day, this can feel nice in the winter months but can often be overbearing in the summer months when it’s much hotter. Closing your blinds during the hotter periods of the day can cool down your home and protect your furniture from any sun damage.

Improve the overall look and feel of your home

It’s amazing how some well-chosen blinds can make a complete difference to the look and feel of a room. Once upon a time, windows and their coverings were mostly functional and not overly pretty to look at, but that’s all changed! Now you can find the perfect covering for your window that is not only practical for your home but adds a beautiful touch of decoration as well.

Increase the value of your home to buyers

If you plan to sell your home at some point in the future and you are not going to take your window additions with you, then you could increase the value of your home by choosing some beautiful blinds now. Not only will your home look more appealing than others (thanks to the decor of your blinds), but you will be leaving behind a practical solution that can often be a big cost when homeowners first move in!

Beautiful blind selections that will change the look of your home

At The Oxford Shutter Company, we aim to provide only the best products for our clients to choose from. Check out a few of the blind ranges we offer our customers below. For more choices, visit our website.

Albaro Venetian

For those who love the classic look of wooden Venetian blinds but need something more practical, Albaro Venetian blinds are the perfect choice for you. They are ready to combat daily wear and tear and use by family members whilst still providing a beautiful look in every room.

Rochelle Romex

Our modern Rochelle™ Romex collection seamlessly combines the look and feel of a soft fabric roman blind with the innovative technology of flexible light control and straightforward operation. The Romex collection, without a doubt, adds elegance and style to any room where the blind is installed.

Parma Honeycomb

Parma blinds are a type of window covering that helps keep your home at a comfortable temperature year-round. The innovative honeycomb design and lining of Parma provide an insulating effect, helping to keep your home warm during the winter and cool in the summer. There is a range of fabric options to choose from; semi-opaque, giving you a warm light glow, room darkening, aimed at removing most of the exterior light when closed.
